The Baton Rouge Zoo was a recreation and Parks Commission initiative, taken in the year 1960. The zoo received a huge fund from the tax-payers for its developments in the year 1965. More aids were provided for the zoo by the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. The construction works begun in 1966 and was completed n 1970 with the exhibits as well. From April start till Labor Day the zoo operates on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 6pm.
