Baton Rouge Zoo History

The Baton Rouge Zoo was a recreation and Parks Commission initiative, taken in the year 1960. The zoo received a huge fund from the tax-payers for its developments in the year 1965. More aids were provided for the zoo by the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. The construction works begun in 1966 and was completed n 1970 with the exhibits as well. Since its very initial days of operation the zoo was warmly accepted by the people of Baton Rouge.

Usual operating hours  :  9.30am to 5pm

From April start till Labor Day the zoo operates on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am to 6pm.

The zoo is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
