
If you love traveling it would certainly be a good idea to visit New Orleans which is a city well known for its multicultural and multilingual heritage, architecture, music, cuisine along with the Mardi Gras celebrations and other festivals. As New Orleans has plenty to do I came up with a list of top ten things…just to make your choice easier and your trip memorable!
French Quarter: The best way to soak up the essence of New Orleans is to take a casual walk along the French Quarter. This is certainly a treat for all, as this area is filled with wrought-iron balconies and courtyards filled with the fragrance of the magnolia. It is also a wonderful idea to stroll down Jackson Square and see the St. Louis Cathedral looming overhead.
St. Charles Streetcar: Once you have spent time in the French Quarter it would be a good idea to hop onto the St. Charles Streetcar, which begins at Canal Street and passes by various famous locations.
Julia Street: If you like art, then Julia Street is just the place for you! While there you can visit The Contemporary Arts Center which is the heart and soul of the area’s arts renaissance. This place is certainly an art lovers dream!
Garden District: As the name suggest, the garden district is made up of gardens resplendent in palms, live oak and magnolia. Once here also take a tour of the neighborhood and revel in its beauty.
The Historic Voodoo Museum: This museum will provide you with information about how the practitioners of the black arts work their magic. Located on the Rue Domaine, between Bourbon and Royal streets, this museum has voodoo dolls, juju bags love potions as well as magical powders.
Mississippi: This mighty river is what made New Orleans, so it would be a nice idea to take a ferry across the river and visit Algiers, which is best known for Mardi Gras World, which is a warehouse-cum-fun park where the floats for the annual festival are housed and assembled.
Music: When in New Orleans you are sure to listen to music that ranges from jazz to blues to zydeco tunes. If you are interested in traditional jazz then make sure you visit the Preservation Hall which is located in the French Quarter.
Street Shopping: If you like antique shopping then you are certainly in the right place! Remember to visit Royal Street which is between Iberville and St. Philip as it is the main shopping street of the French Quarter.
Food: When it comes to food, there are a range of restaurants that you can choose from. Of course depending on the time of cuisine you prefer!
Bars and taverns: Do visit the bars and taverns In New Orleans as they come in different varieties. The scenes in the taverns in New Orleans are likely to be set with banana trees and a fountain with muffelleta and local drinks, such as sazerac or a hurricane on the menu.
