There were 6 faulty members teaching a student body comprising of 202 students when the institution began its first session in the year of 1895.

Harry Howard had the esteem of being the first fellow graduate to have passed out from the institution in 1987.

Over the years the institution witnessed changes in many spheres. The courses and programs were altered and so were admission procedures and requirements that got sterner as time passed. In 1921 the school’s name was changed from Louisiana Industrial Institute to Louisiana Polytechnic Institute.

The infrastructural growth of the institution was aggravated in 1939-1940 after the former main building burnt.

During the 25 years reign of Jay Taylor as 12th President of the institution, Louisiana Polytechnic Institute gradually transformed into what we know to be the Louisiana Tech University.
